The book Tiger Guardians of Dudhwa has been edited by senior IAS officer Sanjay Kumar. It will serve as a reference for serving officials, researchers, and anyone wishing to understand how Dudhwa has changed over the past 50 years.

Environment Pulse Desk: The book titled “Tiger Guardians of Dudhwa” was launched by Arun Kumar Saxena, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Forest, Environment, Zoology and Climate Change. The launch took place in the presence of V. Hekali Zhimomi (Principal Secretary, Forest Department), Sunil Kumar Chaudhary (Principal Chief Conservator of Forests), numerous serving and retired forest officials, and nature enthusiasts.

This book is a compilation of the memories, experiences with wildlife, challenges and innovative solutions of forest officials spanning the last 50 years. Senior officials such as DNS Suman, Mohammad Ahsan and Dr. Asad Rahmani—who have known Dudhwa for over five decades—shared their experiences. The Minister honoured the officials and individuals who contributed articles to the book.

Dr. Ram Lakhan Singh, the first Director of Dudhwa National Park, who passed away in 2023, was fondly remembered and tribute was paid to this distinguished forest officer. The Minister announced plans for a grand celebration of Dudhwa’s Golden Jubilee (50th anniversary) next year and pledged to accelerate the initiative to translocate Asian wild buffaloes from Assam for reintroduction into Dudhwa.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Sunil Chaudhary spoke about efforts to improve grassland management, revitalize the wetlands of the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve (DTR), and boost the population of the Bengal Florican.

The book has been edited by senior IAS officer Sanjay Kumar. Beyond the magnificent tiger, the book celebrates Dudhwa’s extraordinary biodiversity—including rhinos, elephants, swamp deer, grasslands, wetlands, and the vibrant ecosystem of the Terai Arc Landscape. It offers readers deep insight into India’s wildlife conservation journey and the individuals who have worked tirelessly to preserve its natural heritage. Whether you are a wildlife enthusiast, a conservation professional, a civil services aspirant, a student of environmental studies, a photographer or simply a nature lover, this book offers rare insights into one of India’s most renowned protected areas.
